To support our expanding operations and evolving regulatory landscape, we are seeking a Data Protection Specialist and deputy DPO to join our Legal & Compliance team.
Role Overview:
This is a unique opportunity to play a central role in shaping our data protection framework and broader legal strategy. As data protection specialist and deputy DPO, you will lead data privacy initiatives, ensure compliance with GDPR and applicable laws, and provide legal support across commercial and regulatory matters. You’ll work cross-functionally with teams across the business, embedding best practices as we scale.
We are part of the German ERGO insurance group, the role also involves ensuring that company practices comply with ERGO’s norms, policies, and guidelines. This means you will need to navigate an international environment and ensure that the company adheres to both Danish regulations and overarching ERGO policies.
As data protection specialist and deputy DPO, you will be a key contributor to Europæiske Rejseforsikring’s continued success. You will play a vital role in maintaining the company’s integrity, sustainability, and high standards in compliance and data protection.
Key Responsibilities:
- Act as the appointed Data Protection specialist, overseeing the company’s data protection strategy and implementation to ensure full compliance with GDPR and relevant local laws.
- Conduct privacy impact assessments (DPIAs), perform Transfer impact assessments, lead internal audits, and monitor ongoing compliance with GDPR.
- Advise on privacy-related risks in new products, digital platforms, and third-party partnerships.
- Draft, review, and negotiate data processing agreements, privacy clauses, and other contractual documents.
- Manage data subject rights requests.
- Promote a culture of privacy awareness through training, guidance, and stakeholder engagement.
- Support the legal team in reviewing commercial agreements and regulatory matters relevant to the insurance industry.
What We’re Looking For:
The ideal candidate holds a Master of Laws (cand.jur.) or a MSc in Business Administration and Commercial Law (cand.merc.jur.) and has at least 3 years of professional experience as data protection specialist or DPO within the financial sector, from consulting firms, or from the pension, insurance, or banking industries. You must be able to assess and evaluate whether rules and standards are being followed.
To thrive in this role, you should be independent, structured, and analytical with a strong knowledge of GDPR, data protection principles, and privacy frameworks. You’ll be working both independently and in teams in an informal work environment. Strong business acumen and the ability to communicate effectively with colleagues and stakeholders are essential. At the same time, you should be a team player who contributes positively and can collaborate across the organization. The working languages are Danish and English, and business-level proficiency in English, both written and spoken, is required.
